Third Choice Exploration Series #2
In a world often framed by binary decisions, the concept of third choice exploration emerges as a refreshing and potent approach to problem-solving, creativity, and innovation. While we're accustomed to thinking in terms of "this or that," the inclusion of a third option can fundamentally shift our perspectives, opening doors to unforeseen possibilities and unleashing the full extent of our creative potential.
We continue or Third Choice Exploration thought series with a Q&A session with George Derrington, CFO for Red Mountain Group.
What does third choice exploration mean to you?
It has a multitude of meanings but primarily means we are not constrained by traditional boundaries or ideas of what a solution should look like or what our job rolls should be. It is more than the traditional out of the box approach, that is a 2nd choice. It is the convergence of creativity, new perspectives, and maybe a little unconventional approach to a problem or task. It allows our organization to do things that many feel uncomfortable with, too complicated or simply unattainable.
How do you embrace/apply this concept to your own job/life?
It allows me the confidence to jump into new areas that I may not have worked on before and to work on things that most people would shy away from.
How do you think the Red Mountain Group culture supports/encourages 3rd choice exploration? – This is clearly a leadership by example. A challenging of the norms of how problems are approached and that just because someone says it cannot be done or this is the only way does not mean the end. It is a conclusion challenging curiosity.
In what ways do you think third choice exploration contributes to RMGs success and growth? It allows me to go much wider than I previously had on a professional level. It has provided additional confidence when dealing with new and difficult situations. I have also noticed this on a personal level in many areas from family to friends.
